Coleg Harlech WEA

Welcome to Coleg Harlech WEA

At Coleg Harlech, in the community and in the work place we specialise in providing courses tailored to the needs of adults. Many of our students were failed by traditional education in the past and have found a new route to learning through Coleg Harlech WEA.

Coleg Harlech offer full time residential, short residential, evening/day classes.

Residential 9 month University of Wales Foundation Courses

Next intake September 2009, Bursaries available

Designed specifically for adults with few formal qualifications, by the end of the course students will have acquired the skills needed for entering Higher Education. Subject areas include:

Music Technology

Includes sequencing, digital editing, performance and composition.

Multimedia

Includes computer animation, 3d design, photography, radio journalism and moving image production.

Art and Design

Includes painting, drawing, ceramics and photography.

Social Studies

Includes pathways to nursing, social work, sociology and psychology.

Short Residential Courses

A wide range of short courses are organised by Coleg Harlech WEA  or you are welcome bring your own group and make use of the college facilities. Why not stay in Crown Lodge  self sufficient accommodation and teaching rooms.

This years short courses include:

Painting
Orchestral Summer School
Welsh Summer School
and a selection of business courses

Evening/Day Classes

A wide programme of day and evening classes is available at Coleg Harlech.

Community

Courses are being organised by our local centres in Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham, Gwynedd and Powys

The merged Association has continued the common longstanding tradition of liberal arts adult education to enable adults to develop their capacity to learn and fulfil their potential, but has also continued to enlarge this by developing vocational education and training, including providing opportunities for socially and educationally disadvantaged adults both in residence at Harlech and in communities and workplaces across North and Mid Wales.

As part of the centenary celebrations a book has been written detailing the history of the Association

"Changing Lives" is edited by Joe England with a foreward by Glenys Kinnock.

Mission Statement

To enable adults to enhance their life chances and employability by increasing their capacity for learning through the provision of high quality education in residential and community settings, with a due regard to the Welsh language and culture.

The Association is a registered charity with the Charity Commission (registration number 525785) and a company limited by guarantee (registered number 226336).

The main source of funding is the Welsh Assembly Government as a designated institution under the Further and Higher Education Act 1992.
